Angelique Pillar, MD, is a board-certified ophthalmologist and eye surgeon at Maryland Vision Center in Frederick, Maryland. She stays up-to-date with the latest technological advancements in eye care and specializes in the use of modern diagnosis and treatment methods for cornea, external disease, and refractive and complex cataract surgeries.
Dr. Pillar graduated with a Bachelor of Science in molecular, cellular, and developmental biology from Yale University in New Haven, Connecticut. She earned her medical degree from Harvard Medical School in Boston, then completed her ophthalmology residency as chief resident at the University of Maryland in College Park. Dr. Pillar received advanced training in corneal and refractive surgery at the Cleveland Clinic in Ohio before joining the Maryland Vision Center.
As the director of research, Dr. Pillar authored numerous journal articles and book chapters on the cornea and refractive surgery and received grants to present her research at multiple national scientific meetings. She continues her research with a focus on topics such as extending tissue utilization in endothelial keratoplasty, new technologies for dry eyes, and improving the quality of laser vision correction.
Dr. Pillar is a member of the American Academy of Ophthalmology, the Association for Research in Vision and Ophthalmology, the American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgery, the International Society of Refractive Surgery, and the Cornea Society.
When she’s not at work, Dr. Pillar enjoys spending time with her husband and son. She stays active with tennis and running and likes to cook Thai and Turkish cuisine. She is an accomplished pianist and holds a black belt in karate.
