Surgery Evaluation

Understanding Your Cataract Surgery Evaluation

Cataract surgery today is a highly refined procedure that consistently delivers excellent visual outcomes thanks to advanced techniques and technologies.

During surgery, the cloudy natural lens is removed and replaced with a clear artificial lens implant designed to restore sharp vision. Because every eye is different in shape, size, and visual requirements, selecting the right lens implant is a personalized process.

That’s why the pre-surgery planning phase is just as critical as the surgery itself.

As part of your pre-operative evaluation, you’ll undergo a series of detailed diagnostic tests. These tests help your doctor collect precise measurements of your eye to determine the most appropriate intraocular lens (IOL) for your needs.

To ensure that these tests are as accurate as possible, it’s important for the surface of your eye—specifically the cornea—to be in optimal condition. Dry eyes can affect the quality of the measurements, so your doctor may recommend lubricating eye drops ahead of time to improve corneal health.

If you wear contact lenses, they can also temporarily alter the shape of your cornea. For this reason, you may be asked to stop wearing them for a few days before your evaluation to allow your eyes to return to their natural state.

This careful preparation helps ensure the most accurate results and supports the best possible visual outcome following surgery.
